Australia MUST Speak Asian Languages

Australian schoolchildren would be required to learn an Asian language under a proposal put forward by Deputy Opposition Leader Julie Bishop.
Ms Bishop says she will push to have the plan adopted as coalition policy before the next federal election.

Recently there has been some debate as to whether immigrants should be able to speak fluent English before being allowed to settle in Australia. Some argued that it was racist to expect foreigners to speak the national language of a country. And by Multiculturalism's standards, they may be correct since multiculturalism encourages non-assimilating ethnic groups to settle in European countries and retain the way of life that they practiced in their previous country. Others suggested that this was a way of making it harder non-whites to immigrate (which is strange since not all whites speak English)
Whatever your opinion, there are still many people immigrating to Australia who speak almost zero English.

Why then is Julie Bishop trying to force Australians to learn an Asian language? Surely the children of the many immigrants in Australia will have further trouble having to speak one language at home, another outside the home and yet another in the classroom. And there are probably many families who would rather their children to speak the language of a culture that is more familiar in their lives. For instance, an Australian family with a Italian background may wish their children to speak Italian and this could have practical use for visits to Italy or speaking with relatives over the phone.

Julie Bishop may also be preparing for Australia to become closer with China or other Asian countries. If so, shouldn't Australia be privy to her plans for our future? Shouldn't the Australian people be asked if we would like to see further Asian-isation?
No, just like multiculturalism, Australians aren't asked for their opinion or input on the future of Australia. And to go a step further, Julie Bishop has decided to force our children to adopt her vision for Australia.

"In fact my view is it should be mandatory.
It should be an Asian language" -Julie Bishop

The reason she may be so authoritarian and forceful on the issue is because she does not have the public's backing. The public will not voluntarily accept this proposal so she seeks to have it forced.
