What Can Australians Learn From Ned Kelly?

As we approach the memorial of Ned Kelly’s death (Nov 11th) no doubt there will be a snippet of news broadcast showing flowers outside the Old Melbourne Gaol and a statement from Victorian Police who will again defame Ned as a cold blooded murderous thief.

"130 years hasn't diminished the fact that he (Kelly) was a multiple murderer.
I can't understand how we can lionise a multiple murderer ... because he wrapped a bit of tin around his head.
"What's wrong with this country?" -The coward Snr Sgt Davies,

To many Ned was a true Australian, a courageous hero who stood up to tyrannical Victorian Police. But to many he is nothing more than a common criminal. More than likely his biggest crime is being an Australian icon, part of our history and a symbol which many tattoo on their bodies and display on their cars.
As Australian identity becomes increasing taboo any figures that give us a sense of pride or belonging will be seen as Nationalism and stamped out from schools and media in favor of a view that disparages our past and celebrates a future where our heroes will be more representative of our multicultural society.

Ned Kelly was far removed from the modern man. He was a man unwilling to submit himself to be trialed by a corrupt and unjust system. Today we can see that our governments do not represent us, they see no need to consult the public before making important decisions which effect our present and future yet we are expected to live under their rule and support their system.
Unless we take a stand as Ned Kelly did there will be no limits as to how far they will go. Internet censorship, thought crimes, excessive surveillance….. the ball is in their court. And should we find ourselves at the receiving end of ludicrous laws that seek to stifle freedom would we surrender ourselves to the judicial system in good faith that common sense will prevail and we will be duly processed?
Many people from all over the European/Western world are rotting in jail for expressing unpopular beliefs while rapists and murderers are let off with minimum sentences after telling a sob story about growing up in poor suburbs consisting of minority groups.
As we all know, anyone who dares stand up to the system will be met with excessive force and will be used as an example as to what happens to those who dare question authority. Ned Kelly had already made it clear in his past that he did not respect the Victorian Police and no doubt this played a role in his being framed for attempted murder. As Ned refused to hand himself in to the corrupt Victorian Police to face false charges he became an outlaw. As Ned refused to let himself be shot he became a cop killer. This resulted in a bounty put on his head sanctioned by the queen herself who allowed any citizen to murder the Kelly gang and be rewarded £8,000, approx $400,000 in today’s money. (Ned’s burning of the banks mortgage papers increased the original bounty, I’m sure it also increased his popularity in the eyes of the mortgage holders).
This snowball effect is what keeps the rest of us inline. Don’t pay a fine and you will receive and extra fee. Don’t pay the extra fee and the reminder notice will come with another fee. Don’t pay both fees and you will receive a fee to cover the cost of a warrant against yourself. The list goes on.
Ned Kelly took it all the way. He brought the fight to them. He refused to back down. He did not subscribe to the Australian cliché “She’ll be right” or the more common, “shit happens”, he would NOT rest on what he saw as a great injustice. Hundreds of thousands supported him at the time of his death. Sadly it seems that Australian society does not support Ned nearly as much as he was supported in his time. But if you are an underdog, a Catholic or an Irishman, somebody who has felt powerless in the face of injustice or just a true blue Aussie; spare a thought for Ned Kelly this 11th of November and remember the influence one man with a strong belief can have even 130 years after his death.
RIP
Ned Kelly
1855 – 1880

I encourage you to watch Ned Kelly 2003 with Heath Ledger. I believe it is the best Kelly film.
Those who are more adventurous may want to travel into Kelly country. See the sites, learn the story.
UPDATE
Well I never would have expected the amount of defamation that would be thrown at Ned this year.

Statement from police, (the coward and lair Secretary Greg Davies)
"There is no worse liar than a revisionist historian and I get sick and tired of people lionising someone who was a multiple murderer," he said today.
"He wasn't a Robin Hood, he didn't steal from the rich and give to the poor, he stole from everyone and kept the proceeds for himself.
"There is very little difference between Ned Kelly and Carl Williams. They were both multiple murderers who had no regard for anyone and who ended up dying violent deaths."
which is the second year in the row he has used the word "lionise" (very impressive word)
He also failed to learn anything about Ned's generous handing out of money to the Irish farmers who were locked up while their crops died and family starved due to the Victorian police's corrupt policy of illegally imprisoning those who verbally supported Ned.
Carl Williams was no hero, yet he was most likely murdered for threatening to leak information on police corruption.  So yes, they did both end up dying violent deaths at the hands of corrupt Victorian Police, so not an all together terrible example.

This poll from the age shows our society is both uneducated and brainwashed by mainstreme media propaganda.
There was also overwhelming hatred from talk back radio, particularity conservative 2GB and MTR whose reactionary, misinformed stupidity was unmatched. Especially the comments of the Herald Sun Editor who made numerous defamatory comparisons between Hitler and Ned Kelly.

RIP Edward Kelly
Thank god you didn't live to see what we have become
